TrueCrypt provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password: a hidden volume (steganography- more information may be found here); no TrueCrypt volume can be identified (volumes cannot be distinguished from random data). TrueCrypt uses encryption algorithms AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish. It is based on Encryption for the Masses (E4M) 2.02a, conceived in 1997.
Version 6.0 includes new features such as parallelized encryption/decryption on multicore processors/systems, the ability to create and run an encrypted hidden operating system whose existence is impossible to prove (Windows Vista/XP/2008/2003), and the ability to encrypt an entire system drive even if it contains extended/logical partitions (Windows Vista and Windows 2008).

Easy password-encryption of files and folders. Right-click on a file or folder and select Encrypt with Flexcrypt folder. Enter a password, Decryption is done by double-clicking on the encrypted file and enter the correct password. The big advantage with Flexcrypt Folder is that it does not require any software to decrypt an encrypted file. This makes it possible to encrypt a file and send it safely to someone else, perhaps by e-mail.
In some cases it is necessary to rename the encrypted file (take away .exe ending) in order for the file to go through firewalls. Rename the encrypted file by: Right-click on the encrypted file and choose rename. Take away .exe at the end of the filename. Encrypted file is now ready to be sent. The receiver must also rename the file back to its original ending by: Right-click and choose rename and add .exe at the end of the filename.
